Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

The last two renewals of this race have been won by Mick Goff, and so his Ilikeit, who is from the family of the 2009 Champion Hurdler Punjabi, is likely to have his supporters here on debut. Crystal Spectre boasts the biggest price tag in this from the store sales having been picked up for E72,000 by connections last year, and he is one of two entries in this for Colin Bowe who has also been successful in this race in the past.

SKY BLUE RIBBON made amends for falling in each of her opening two efforts by finishing second at Tyrella a fortnight ago, and with that initial completion under her belt, it would not be much of a surprise to see her go one place better in this. Deduefromhouston kept on well to finished third on debut behind a stablemate at Ballycrystal, and she could well prove to be the biggest danger.

Mick Goff has a good record here, saddling three winners from his last six runners at this course, and CLONDAW SERGEANT will attempt to improve that strike rate following a first placed finished at Carrigarostig last month. He finished third behind a horse that was subsequently sold for 200,000stg on that occasion, and can advertise that form in this. Intense Appeal finished second in the four-year-old maiden on this card last year when there were only three runners, but he would need to bounce back from a non-completion at Tattersalls last time.

CADOUDAL SAINT impressed when winning by seven lengths around here in November, to maintain an unbeaten record from two starts at this venue. Despite disappointing at Down Royal over Christmas, his course record could see him really put it up to Winged Leader, who has been beaten in two of his three runs in this particular contest. His stablemate, My Life Be Like, can be forgiven his latest Clonmel effort, which came in very tough conditions.

JOHNNYS BELLE enjoyed the perfect start to her career when making a winning debut on home soil at Ballycrystal. Given her unexposed profile, she would be entitled to progress forward from it in this. Fellow last-time-out maiden winner Lucy Wang won well at Turtulla in mid-November, whilst Picture Of You represents a stable that can do little wrong at present, and she could well be better than her latest effort in Curraghmore.

CAUSE FOR COMMENT twice finished second in hunter chase company last season, and that would look to be the standout form in this. Kildare D?Irlande has also had to fill the runners-up position in each of his last two starts, including in a competitive Boulta contest in November, whilst this competitive heat also includes Mackieshill, The Rebel Fox, Tony The Pony and Unfortuantecharlie, who could all play big roles in this.
